Stating that services provided by armed personnel are often forgotten after they retire, Governor H.R. Bhardwaj laid emphasis on providing good infrastructural facilities to ex-servicemen.
Addressing the Armed Forces Flag Day function organised by the Government of Karnataka, Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement, here Friday, he said: “I recently spoke to Defence Minister A.K. Antony about necessitating the employment of ex-servicemen in the crucial decision-making processes in government departments all across the State. Besides the reservation facility allotted to ex-servicemen, it’s important to maintain a good network with them,” Mr. Bhardwaj told his audience comprising Ministers, serving Armed Forces personnel, Civil Service officers, next of kin of battle casualties, ex-defence personnel, NCC cadets, school students and the public at the Raj Bhavan.
Maj.Gen. (retd.) M.C. Nanjappa pointed out that as per the Ex-Servicemen (Re-Employment in Central Civil Services and Posts) Rules 1979, there is a 10 per cent reservation for all the posts under Central government group C and D jobs.
However, the reservation policy is not being monitored and effectively executed. “For the effective implementation and optimum use of the reservation policy, a vigilance committee comprising an army officer, government officer and judiciary officer needs to be formed. The ex-servicemen, besides being employed as security personnel, can also be hired in other private sectors as well,” Maj. Gen. Nanjappa added.
The Armed Forces Flag Day is commemorated on December 7 and is marked by the release of the Armed Forces token/car flags.
