May 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - BENGALURU:

Governor Vajubhai R. Vala has given his assent to the Karnataka Ministers Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the Karnataka Legislature Salaries, Pensions, and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2015, which will increase salary and allowances of MLAs and MLCs.

The new pay scale and allowances would come into effect from April 1, 2015, according to a notification issued by the government.

The two Bills were passed by the State legislature during the budget session.

With this, Karnataka will now end up paying almost double the salary it pays for elected representatives. While the salary and allowances of MLAs and MLCs will nearly double, those of the Chief Minister, Ministers, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and the Chairman of the Legislative Council, will also register a meteoric rise.
