Close on the heels of the incident where a jeweller and his family committed suicide, a 35-year-old goldsmith allegedly ended his life by hanging in his house in Chamarajpet.

The deceased Shyamsundar Santra, a resident of Azad Nagar and native of Rajasthan, had a shop in Cubbonpet.

He employed around seven men in his shop that used to get orders from other jewellery shops.

According to the police, Santra reportedly incurred heavy loss in business and had taken loan from private financiers.

On Saturday night, after returning home, he hanged himself with a dhoti from the ceiling fan in his room. His wife was sleeping in the next room with their children.

The incident came to light at around 7 a.m. on Sunday when the family went to wake him up.

The case has been registered at Chamarajpet police station.
