Assailants get away with lakhs worth of jewellery

A homemaker was found murdered and her home stripped of Rs. 20 lakh-worth of gold and cash at N.G.R. Layout in Virat Nagar Friday afternoon. Madiwala police said Jabeen Taj (32), wife of S.S. Babu, a landlord who owns around five houses in the locality, was found trussed and strangled, but there was no evidence of a break-in.

She was alone

Jabeen was making lunch and Mr. Babu and their younger son Nadeem had left for their Friday prayers.

The couple’s other son, Saleem, was at school.

Mr. Babu and Nadeem returned after namaaz around 2 p.m. and found the main door latched from the outside. When they went in, they found Jabeen lying dead on the bathroom floor next to the kitchen.

Mr. Babu told the police he had bought jewellery worth Rs.12 lakh for his wife recently and it was at home.

The robbers not only took that but also rings and chains belonging to him and the two children, apart from Rs. 80,000 in cash. Jabeena was very fond of jewellery and used to wear quite a bit of it gifted by her husband.

Known persons, may be

Police suspect the murderers to be people known to her as no force was used to enter the house. Besides, Jabeen never opened the door to strangers.

Police said Mr. Babu had built a three-storey building eight years ago. While he and his family lived in one portion, the others were rented out.

The police are questioning some tenants, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast Division) P.S. Harsha said.
