When Rahul and Sangeeta (name changed) decided to marry, they wanted their special day to reflect who they were. Right from wedding decorations to postage stamps, they personalised everything.
With India Post’s ‘My Stamp’ facility, one can print a thumbnail photograph/logo/image alongside the selected postage stamp.
According to officials of the Philately Division at the office of the Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle, the My Stamp scheme has caught on really well since it was first introduced in February 2011.
The Karnataka Circle’s Philately Division has been receiving several requests for personalised stamps. Several corporate companies have come forward to have their logos incorporated with commemorative stamps.
“Recently, the Karnataka State Cricket Association and the Karnataka State Football Association personalised stamps by incorporating their logos, as did Sringeri Sharada Peetham and the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. They use these personalised stamps for all their postal communication,” the officials said.
My Stamp’s success also lies in the ease with which stamps can be personalised. “One has to submit a passport size photo or a soft copy, along with an identity proof.”
The officials told The Hindu that India Post started My Stamp with just four flower themes, which has now increased to 10 commemorative stamps. Recently, Mysore palace was introduced.
The others include Fairy Queen train, Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Port Blair Island, Hawa Mahal, Ajanta Caves, St. Francis Church and Qutub Minar.
