A 28-year-old cab driver, who allegedly eloped with the daughter of a senior Income Tax Department officer and claimed to have married her, has now been told by the police to approach the court to get his “wife” back.
As the driver, Vishwa, did not have documents to prove that they had married and as the girl claimed she did not want to go back to her parents, the police sent her to the State home for women.
According to the police, Vishwa, a resident of Nayandahalli, was an working as an instructor at a driving school in J.P. Nagar where the girl, daughter of Joint Commissioner of the I-T Department Siddaramaiah and an engineering student, had gone for training three months ago.
The police said the girl and Vishwa were in a relationship for a month until one of her friends alerted her parents.
The girl’s father then allegedly kept her confined to the house and threatened Vishwa of dire consequences, according to the police.
Last week, however, the girl managed to escape from the house. She and Vishwa went to M.M. Hills where they claim to have married, the police said.
Mr. Siddaramaiah filed a missing complaint with the jurisdictional J.P. Nagar police.
On Monday, the duo returned to the city and went to the police station to give their statement. But the girl’s parents claimed that she was suffering from mental problems and even produced a certificate purportedly from NIMHANS and sought her custody.
Unable to verify the claims being made by both the parties, the police advised them to resolve the issue in court. The girl was sent to the home for women.
