Akshitha was the second daughter of Shivamadu, a labourer, and Shashirekha, a domestic help. The couple’s elder daughter is a B.Com. student and their son is in class 8.According to the police, Akshitha was alone at home. She got to know her results from a friend and realised that she had failed in Mathematics. She went into the bedroom and hung herself from the ceiling fan, according to a senior police officer.

The incident came to light after her relative Sujatha came to visit the family. She, along with some neighbours, rushed Akshitha to hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival.
