The second year law student who was gang raped last October on the Jnana Bharathi campus, has quit college and returned to her native place. The 21-year-old was sexually assaulted by a gang of eight men near Gandhi Bhavan on the Bangalore University campus late in the evening.

Confirming this, a university spokesperson told The Hindu the student had left on June 11. Asked if her fee would be refunded, all he was willing to say was: “Action will be taken as per procedure and on compassionate grounds.”

The girl was with her friend when the couple were accosted by the inebriated gang which demanded money. When the friend went to get his wallet from the car, the gang raped the girl.

The police arrested seven men, all residents of Dasegowdana Doddi in Ramanagaram. The police described them as being involved in smuggling timber from the university campus. The eighth man is still absconding.
