The police have booked under the Goonda Act six of the accused in the gang-rape case of a law student on Bangalore University’s Jnanabharathi campus in October last year.

The police said that the accused — Yeliyaiah, Iraiah, Madduraiah, Shivanna, Doddaiah and Rama — were involved in many rape cases but so far the police could book only four cases against them, including the gang-rape of the law student. This is a preventive measure to stop them from getting bail as they are involved in violent crimes, Joint Commissioner of Police Pronab Mohanty said.

The six men were arrested from in and around Mettoradoddi village, based on the description given by the student to the police.

The men later reportedly confessed to the police that they had been involved in several crimes, including rapes and robberies, on the university campus where they also used to smuggle timber.
