A techie, who was returning home in his car in the wee hours of Saturday, was stopped, assaulted and looted by a gang of six men near BEL market, Jalahalli. The gang made away with his car, besides a laptop, an iPad and a mobile phone.

The victim, Sajith (43), hails from Kerala and has been living in the city for the past five years. A resident of Vidyaranyapura, he was returning home in his car around 3.30 a.m. on Saturday morning when the incident occurred.

Police sources said that just as Sajith reached Jalahalli and suddenly applied brakes at a speed breaker, a bike rammed his car from behind. This led to them abusing him in return, prompting him to flee as he sensed the situation going out of control. Sajith stated in his complaint that the three persons on the bike were soon joined by three more men on another bike. They chased him down and stopped him near BEL Market. Sajith claimed that as he got down from the car and tried to reason with the gang, they physically assaulted him and one of them broke a beer bottle over his head.

The gang later fled away with Sajith’s car and also made away with his laptop, iPad and a mobile phone.Sajith was treated at a nearby private hospital and discharged. A case has been registered at Gangammanagudi police station. An official overlooking the probe said they had collected the CCTV footage from all traffic signals along the route and were trying to track down the bikers and Sajith’s car.
