March 10, 2013 09:32 am | Updated 09:32 am IST - Bangalore:

A construction supervisor was hacked to death by a gang in Cement Colony on Saturday, the Kalasipalya police said.

T. Kumar (32), a resident of Vinobhanagar slum, was attacked by Shankar and seven of his associates when he went to meet him (Shankar)on a peace mission.

The police said on Friday, the gang had attempted to attack one of the boys in the slum, during which Kumar had attempted to cool down tempers. He continued his efforts on Saturday and went to meet Shankar. However, the latter allegedly attacked him in anger as Kumar had not supported the gang the previous day.

Kumar sustained grievous injuries after the attack while two others escaped with light injuries during the scuffle. He was later taken to NIMHANS where he died.

Family threatened

Kumar’s family said Shankar’s gang also threatened them, damaging windows and vandalising some parked vehicles. The police struggled to control the situation at the slum when chaos erupted.

Kumar had two wives, Manjula and Rajeshwari. He supported a family of 10, including their children.

Friday’s attack

The gang had attacked one Sundar in Tilaknagar on Friday, landing him in hospital with serious injuries. The police said one of the residents in Cement Colony had paid for the attack. The police are looking for the gang.
