Three men assaulted the security guard during an attempt to rob an ATM at HSR Layout on Friday night. The target was the Corporation Bank ATM on Agara Main Road.
The trio assaulted Shamshul Khan who was asleep inside the kiosk before attempting to break open the ATM. They broke the screen, but were unable to get their hands on the cash.
The incident came to light on Saturday morning when another guard, Ramaswamy, went to relieve Shamshul and found him unconscious. Ramaswamy told The Hindu that he tried to revive Shamshul by sprinkling water on his face. However, Shamshul could barely speak. Ramaswamy rushed him to Victoria Hospital from where he was later shifted to NIMHANS, as he had suffered a head injury.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) T.D. Pawar said Shamshul was out of danger and was discharged later in the day. He said that the trio had hit him on the back of the head.
There were two CCTV cameras in the kiosk. Police are examining the footage.
