Freedom fighter and Gandhian V. Annaiah passed away at the age of 91 here on Saturday in his residence in J.P. Nagar. He founded the Yuvaka Sangha in 1946 along with fellow freedom fighter V.S. Krishna Iyer.

The Yuvaka Sangha provided free coaching classes to class ten, pre- University, as well as B.Com students, which were conducted by eminent faculty members.

Mr. Annaiah, a bachelor, was the recipient of the Rajyotsava Award. He reportedly joined the freedom struggle at the age of ten after listening to Mahatma Gandhi’s speech in Bangalore.

Lakshman Prasad B.S., volunteer with the Sangha, said Mr. Annaiah believed that real freedom could only be achieved through education. He also said that Mr. Annaiah served as president and secretary for numerous social organisations.
