Karnataka government has released Rs. 7.5 crore to set up a park in memory of former Prime Minister Jagajivan Ram, Social Welfare Minister D. Sudhakar said on Wednesday.
The foundation of the park, spread over 2.5 acres, would be laid next month to commemorate the birth centenary anniversary of the leader, he told reporters here.
The government would make available funds to the Sadashiva Commission of Inquiry, reviewing the distribution of reservation benefits among scheduled castes.
The commission, which had been set up following complaints that only a few castes enjoyed the reservation benefits, had sought funds to enable it to carry out a door-to-door caste census survey, he said.
Necessary steps to provide funds would be taken after holding consultations with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, he said.
The government favoured reservation within the 18 percent quota among various Scheduled Caste groups, including Madigas.
