Fresh tenders for garbage disposal soon

June 28, 2011 03:37 pm | Updated 03:37 pm IST - Bangalore:

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will invite fresh tenders soon for collection and disposal of garbage in all 198 wards of the city.

Home Minister R. Ashok, who is also in-charge Minister for Bangalore Urban district, told presspersons here on Monday that the existing contractors' term had expired and fresh tenders would be called for for collection and disposal of garbage, which would cost the civic authority Rs. 350 crore a year. The BBMP Council is expected to take the decision on the issue in the next meeting, he said.

To break monopoly of some contractors, one contractor cannot bid for more than three wards, he said.

Hoardings

To generate more revenue and crackdown on illegal advertisement and other hoardings in the city, the BBMP would auction areas zone-wise. Auctioning will help the BBMP increase its revenue from advertisement hoardings from Rs. 40 crore a year to Rs. 150 crore, he said.

Besides removing illegal hoardings, steps will be taken to remove advertisements related to tuition classes, paying guest accommodation and taxi services, he said.
