Over a week after a 22-year-old post graduate student was raped in Fraser Town, three accused, including an event manager, were arrested by the Pulikeshi Nagar police on Saturday. One more accused is still absconding.

The police arrested Mohammed Saud, an event manager, Sheikh Shoaib, owner of a mobile phone shop in Venkateshpura and Mohammed Hafeez, owner of a car battery shop, from their houses in D.J. Halli based on information provided by prime accused Hyder Nazir.

“The accused have confessed to the crime and have been identified by the victim,” said Deputy Commissioner (East) Satish Kumar. He said that the accused are being questioned to ascertain if they had been involved in similar crimes earlier.

The police had arrested two suspects on Thursday based on information given by Nazir. But, it turned out that the two had been named because Nazir nursed a grudge against them.

Mr. Kumar acknowledged that the police had to face resentment of locals after unconnected persons were detained for questioning.

Police look for clues in nunnery case

Intensifying the investigations into the rape of a 15-year-old at a nunnery, the police are verifying call details of mobile phones, the signals of which have been picked up by the nearest mobile tower.

The police have obtained details of calls made before and after the crime. The police suspect that the rapists might have conducted a recce of the area before committing the crime and they could have possibly used the phones, a senior police officer said.
