Four members of a family allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves in their house in Om Shakthi Layout in Bommanahalli police station limits on Sunday.

According to the police, Jagadeesh (50), his wife Kasthuri (45) and their children Vinod (15) and Prabhu (12), took this extreme step as they were in heavy debt.

The family, hailing from Vellore, had came to the city 20 years ago. Jagdeesh was working a private company. He had allegedly taken multiple loans from banks and his friends to construct a house. But, be could not repay the amount. He tried selling the house, but found no buyers, the police said.

As none of the family members opened the door on Sunday, neighbours sensed something wrong and informed the police, who recovered the bodies.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is on.
