The city police have arrested four more persons in connection with the murder of a retired bank manager in Wilson Garden Police station limits recently, taking the number of arrests to seven.

Uday Raj Singh (65) was stabbed to death and his wife was assaulted by a group of men who tried to steal a 400-year-old necklace from their home on March 25. Alert neighbours helped the police catch three persons — Madhusudhan (27), Sateesh (25) and Dileep Kumar (24) — when they were in the vicinity. The police have now arrested Abhishek (27), Sridhar P.S. (31), Amith Kumar (23) of Mysore and Kiran (28) of Hassan. The police said that Madhusudhan, a stock broker in Mysore, is the prime accused in the case. He was working as an assistant manager with a private bank in the city and moved back to his native Mysore two years ago, to start a stock brokering firm with two others.

Police sources said one of Madhusudhan’s partners cheated investors of several crores and was absconding. Madhusudhan was under pressure to return their investment. Abhishek, a colleague, told Madhusudan about Mr. Singh who was trying to sell an antique necklace. Police investigations have revealed that Abhishek and Madhusudhan had visited Mr. Singh a few times in the last one year, with the intention of buying the necklace.

“However, when Mr. Singh quoted Rs. 12 crore for the necklace, the duo decided to steal it and when they failed, they attacked him and his wife,” said a police official.
