Four persons were killed on the spot and two others sustained injuries when a truck collided with a goods carrier in Bagepalli town of Chickballapur district in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Suresh, who was driving the vehicle, and Ramesh, Anjaneyalu and Moulasab. According to the police, the victims are from Andhra Pradesh and had come to Bangalore. Due to non-availability of bus services to Andhra Pradesh on account of the ongoing anti-Telangana agitation, they could only reach Bagepalli, where they boarded a goods carrier to return to their native places in Hindupur and Kadri.

The injured were rushed to the hospital before being shifted to Nimhans, where one of them is said to be critical.

The truck driver fled the spot leaving the truck behind. The Bagepalli police have registered a case.

Motorcyclist killed

In another accident, a 26-year-old man was killed on the spot and two others were seriously injured when a car knocked down their motorcycle on NH 4 near Nelamangala on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Girish, a resident of Suddagunte, who was returning home with two others on a motorcycle.

While taking a turn to Tyamangondlu village, a speeding car knocked them down, killing Girish on the spot.

Sensing danger, the car sped away following which passers-by staged a protest alleging that the roads were not safe for motorists.

Traffic was disrupted for sometime.
