An adult and four children reportedly drowned in Bengaluru and Chickballapur on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Sadath, 23; Asif, 9; Sabah, 12; and Huriya, 13, from Bengaluru drowned in a lake near Chickballapur on Wednesday. They were part of group of eight who were picnicking in the area.
After visiting Nandi Hills, they headed to Srinivasasagara lake. “When Sadath, the driver, saw the three children struggling to stay afloat, he jumped in to rescue them, but did not make it,” said the police.
In the second case, a six-year-old boy, Gautam, was found dead in a sump outside his house in the outskirts of Bengaluru. His parents were at work when the incident took place around 11.30 a.m.
“There are six houses in the locality where the family lives,” said the police. The houses have a common sump, but someone left it open after drawing water from it. Gautam slipped into it while playing, and drowned. Later, when the neighbours began searching for him, they found the body in the sump.
