Four arrested for assaulting cops on Ugadi

The Varthur police have arrested four persons on charges of beating two policemen who tried to check on a group which was gambling inside the government school premises during Ugadi celebration on Sunday.

According to Abdul Ahad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield), constables Basappa Ganegera and Sharana Basappa, who were on patrolling duty, where informed that a group of people was gambling inside the school. The duo reached the spot on their motorbikes and tried to disperse the crowd. Enraged, the gang attacked the policemen.

The two constables managed to get away and alerted the control room. Additional police force was rushed to the spot and four persons were arrested based on a video recorded by an onlooker on his mobile. The accused have been identified as Kumar, Sandeep, Murthy and Murali Mohan.

Efforts are on to nab the other attackers, the police said.

The accused are said to be close associates of a sitting Member of Legislative Assembly, a police officer said.
