A forum fighting against the land acquisition in connection with Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC), on Sunday decided to launch what it called “disobedience movement” against the project.
The ‘Peoples’ Court’, organised by ‘Bhoo Swadeena Virodhi Vedike’, said it would ensure that those guilty of “perpetrating fraud” faced criminal prosecution.
The proceedings, held in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue here, were also attended by former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda who has been up in arms against the BMIC expressway project.
Describing himself as a full time farmer and part-time politician, Mr. Gowda, during whose Chief Ministership in 1994 the MOU for the BMIC project was inked, said he would continue his fight.
The original plan had six-way road with four concrete and two asphalted, he said, adding the project promoters were required to build schools, hospitals and six townships.
The forum said it would obey and respect the main judgment of the Supreme Court.
The apex court on October 27th had directed the State government to set up a high-level committee headed by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa for early completion of the project, and had directed filing of a status report.
