Former spymaster releases book

July 24, 2014 12:33 am | Updated 12:33 am IST - BANGALORE:

A book titled ‘Mission R&AW’ authored by former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer R.K. Yadav, was released here on Tuesday. Former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde released it.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Hegde said that the subject of intelligence is always a mystery for the public since it is not freely discussed in the country. “There are several doubts among public on how the intelligence is gathered, at what cost, their genuineness and so on. The author has made extensive research on the subject and reported his findings on security and other intelligences,” he said.

Mr. Yadav said the book is about the success and failure of the Indian intelligence since independence. “I have covered the role of the Indian intelligence in the 1965 war with Pakistan . Various issues related to RAW, including the liberation of Bangladesh and also on how the organisation under R.N. Kao, changed the map of India by merging 3,000 square miles of the territory of Sikkim in its union. The book has details on how three RAW officers fulfilled this task without arms and ammunition right under the nose of China.”

“I have suggested that the RAW should be accountable to Parliament like the Central Intelligence Agency, which is accountable to the American Senate,” said Mr. Yadav.
