A former Minister C. Gurunath (67) reportedly committed suicide by jumping from the second floor of Sagar Hospital on Bannerghatta Road on Thursday.

Gurunath was the Labour Minister in 1994 when H.D. Deve Gowda was the Chief Minister. Police said that he was a diabetic and had been admitted to the hospital a few days ago. He was to be discharged on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 1.30 p.m. when passers-by noticed him falling. They rushed him inside, but doctors declared him dead.

Gurunath hailed from Shabad in Kalaburagi and lived with his family at K.S. Layout in the city. The police said the family members were not around when he jumped of the second floor. The reason for his suicide is yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered at Tilak Nagar police station.
