A retired army personnel was beaten up by a traffic police official for trying to make way for an ambulance that was struck in the traffic jam near Kaveri Junction in Sadashiva Nagar on Tuesday.

The army personnel has been identified as Nagappa.

The ambulance, which was carrying blood units to Navachetan hospital in Yelahanka, was struck in the traffic jam near the Cauvery underpass. Noticing this, a retired armyman removed a rope put up by the traffic police as a road divider to make way for the ambulance.

Enraged by this the traffic police sub-inspector, Ranganna thrashed the retired armyman in full public view. A senior police officer of the Sadashiva Nagar police station said that he would enquire into the matter and take necessary action.
