A 42-year-old forest guard was allegedly assaulted by four youths on Wednesday when he tried to prevent them from entering a restricted forest area near Bannerghatta.

The victim, Lakshmikanth, has been admitted to hospital.

Police said that the youths — Shamshuddin and Syed Pasha, both residents of Mangammanapalya on Hosur Road, and Syed Farooq and Syed Parvez, both residents of Moulvi Nagar — entered the restricted area after beating up the guard.

However, they were caught by local people who handed them over to the police.
