There is now a lot of focus on improving two-way trade between the US and India, said Richard R Verma, US Ambassador to India.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Water Health centre at Lingarajapuram here on Tuesday, Ambassador Verma said currently, the two-way trade stood at around 100 billion dollars. "We are working towards increasing this to 500 billion dollars as soon as possible. We have met with the union ministers of commerce, finance and law in this regard," he said.
Asked about his experiences after taking over as Ambassador, he said: "It's been a great year so far."
He noted that the relations between the two countries had "soared" due to efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barrack Obama.
"There is more government to government cooperation with India than any other country. We now work together in over 80 different initiatives," he said.
Appreciating the efforts of the Water Health plant in providing clean and safe drinking water to the citizens, Ambassador Verma said with USAID support, the plant helps addresses the challenge of access to clean and safe drinking water. "It has been possible to provide clean water to the people through the use of innovation and interesting technology. The test results of water supplied are made public and these plants have become vital for the communities around," he added.
