Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday appealed to the media to focus on issues related to development and good governance.
Participating at a programme organised to felicitate him and also offer a farewell in the wake of him getting elected to the Upper House from Rajasthan, Mr. Naidu said: “I appeal to the media to give priority to best practices related to development.” Maintaining that there was a need to bring about a change in the mindset of people to achieve development, he said the media could play an effective role here.
Mr. Naidu remarked that he would never forget Karnataka till he is alive as it was this State that elected him to the Rajya Sabha three times. He emotionally recalled his links with Karnataka. “Even as I work from Rajasthan, I continue to uphold the interests of the entire country, including Karnataka,” he said.
Mr. Naidu, who faced a campaign from a Kannada organisation that demanded that people from other States should not be allowed to represent Rajya Sabha from Karnataka, disclosed that several leaders, including veteran Congress leader M.V. Rajashekharan, had written to him expressing concern over him not contesting from Karnataka this time.
‘Will abide by decision’
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party State president B.S. Yeddyurappa said all the party leaders, including himself, would abide by the decision of the party high command regarding the composition of the party’s State core committee.
