Motorists present at Navarang Circle on Friday morning were in for a surprise as around 60 students from a private school formed a flash mob to raise awareness on road safety.
The students, all from classes 5 to 9 of Presidency School, Nandini Layout, took to the roads to encourage motorists to wear helmet and drive cautiously. After the flash mob performance, tips were given on safe driving.
A huge crowd gathered to witness the performance, which was repeated in other busy junctions on Modi Hospital Road, Dr. Rajkumar Road and near Orion Mall, Rajajinagar. The students’ slogan was ‘Be cool, follow traffic rules’.
School principal Fathima M. said they were involved in the ‘Safer Roads, Safer India’ project with the aim of making a difference as Bengaluru stands fourth in road accident deaths in India.
Prerana Das, a class 10 student of Presidency School, is one of the four students from Bengaluru who have received a grant from Youth Services America (YSA) along with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to work on the ‘Safer Roads, Safer India’ project, Ms. Fathima said. The school plans to conduct more such programmes, she added.
