Five-year-old mowed down by water tanker

A five-year-old girl was mowed down by a water tanker at Saraipalya here on Saturday. A minor was at the wheels when the incident occurred.

The victim has been identified as Kujra, daughter of autorickshaw driver Noor Pasha.

The water tanker was parked in front of the girl's house. After supplying water, the tanker driver reportedly got out of the vehicle to collect money, leaving the keys in the vehicle.

In the meantime, a young boy, said to be between eight and 12 years old, who works in a chicken shop opposite the house, got into the vehicle. He started the tanker, and when it moved forward, Kujra came under its wheels.

She was taken to a hospital where she died. The boy is absconding.

Foiled

Two unidentified men were forced to give up their attempt to loot cash from an ATM at Hunasamaranahalli near Yelahanka here in the early hours of Saturday as they faced stiff resistance from the security guard.

According to the Yelahanka police, the duo attacked the security guard, Veerendra Prakash Ramachandra, tied his hands and gagged him inside Kotak Mahindra Bank's ATM counter at 4 a.m.

They tried to break open the ATM using crowbars. However, they faced stiff resistance from the guard. And when they saw some people coming towards the ATM, they snatched a mobile phone and Rs. 100 from Veerendra and ran away, the police said.
