A five-year-old girl was killed on the spot after she came under the wheel of a water tanker in Chikkajala on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Divya, a resident of Vinayakanagar on Bagaluru Road. Police said that Divya, daughter of Nagalakshmi, a labourer, was accompanying her aunt Padma who was going to pick up her son from school when the incident took place. The water tanker driver, who was coming from a private villa ( RMZ Pawava ) towards the road, failed to notice the two. Divya came under the front right wheel of the tanker and was killed due to massive head injuries, said the police.

Passers-by rushed to the spot and thrashed the driver before handing him over to the police. The Chikkajala police have arrested Tirupathi, the driver, and seized the vehicle.
