It was an act of dare-devilry by a spirited five-year-old boy. A.N. Sudeep, a student of UKG in Vivekananda English Nursery School here, swam a distance of 1.5 km in the check-dam of Puradalu near here on Sunday. He covered the stretch in just about 20 minutes, amidst cheers from the crowds who had gathered to watch his feat.

With this, Sudeep became the first adventurer to enter the Sahasa Shimoga Book of Records being brought out along the lines of the Limca Book of Records.

Cash award

Sahasa and Samskruti Academy, which had arranged the event, honoured the boy with a cash award of Rs.5000 and a certificate of appreciation.

President of the Country Club D.S. Arun who gave away the awards to the boy lauded Sudeep's discipline and dedication to emerge as a promising swimmer.

Sudeep is the son of A. Naveen and A.N. Jyothi of Basavanagudi here.

Regular practice

He learnt swimming under the guidance of A.S. Krishnamurthy and practices regularly in the Country Club here.

General Secretary of the academy A.N. Vijayendra Rao outlined the activities of the academy at the event.
