Five police personnel and a dacoit were injured in a shootout at Govindapura here in the wee hours of Tuesday, police said.

While the policemen are being treated at a private hospital, the dacoit identified as Harsha, who sustained bullet injury, is stated to be “out of danger”, police sources told PTI.

Six to seven police teams were despatched in different directions on a tip-off that a seven-member dacoit gang had hijacked a lorry at Devanahalli.

On spotting the lorry at Govindapura, one of the police teams waylaid the lorry and asked the dacoits to surrender but the gang refused to do so and allegedly attacked them with lethal weapons.

Firing at them in self defence, police arrested five of the dacoits including Harsha, while hunt is on to nab the two others who are absconding, sources added.
