A gang of four persons, posing as policemen, tricked five persons into parting with their jewellery, all within a span of three hours. The gang struck at Bhashyam Circle, BEL Circle, Triveni Road, Pipe Line Road and M.M. Road.

Using an old rick, the “policemen” they reportedly cautioned victims about a murder in the area and convinced them to remove their gold jewellery and wrapped it in a handkerchief/ paper. To their dismay, the victims later found the packet had stones instead of jewellery.

The five cases are being investigated by the Vyalikaval, Jalahalli, Yeshwantpur, Malleswaram and Pulikeshinagar police.

The gang’s first target was Murthy (55) of Malleswaram, who was returning from his morning walk at around 8.30 a.m. The gang intercepted him near Bhashyam Circle, warned him about a murder and asked him to remove his gold chain. An unsuspecting Murthy removed his gold chain weighing 40 gm, when the “policemen” asked him to put it in a handkerchief and offered to wrap it, only to flee with it.

The next target was Sagai Mercy (56) of Bommasandra. She was walking near BEL circle when one of the gang members used the same ploy. The gang pretended to wrap her gold chain in a piece of paper and placed it in her bag and disappeared.

The gang took on three women walking on Triveni Road in Yeshwantpur. However, only 55-year-old resident of Malleswaram Rani did. The gang made away with 100 gm of her jewellery, including bangles and a gold chain.

In a similar modus operandi, the gang made away with a gold chain weighing 75 gm of Kamalamma (75), who was returning home after shopping on Pipe Line Road.

The gang’s fifth target was Saraswathi Bai (70), of Williams Town, who was waiting for a bus on M.M. Road in Pulikeshi Nagar. The gang approached her and convinced her to part with gold chain and bangles, weighing 70 gm.
