Close to ten days after two persons were killed after being mowed down by a speeding water tanker on Bellary Road, the first hurdle for putting up a skywalk at the junction for passengers has been cleared.
A prefabricated metallic skywalk is expected to come up at the junction in a month’s time.
The junction, which was a bottleneck, was narrow compared to the wide Bellary Road ahead. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had notified land to widen the road at the junction in 2011 which had been pending since then.
NHAI swung into action on Saturday late night and acquired the notified lands for the road widening project. Earth-movers demolished the compound walls of Esteem Mall and the Hebbal Electrical Crematorium and acquired land notified for acquisition.
The road widening project that had been on the back burner was the main reason that the skywalk project was held up till date.
Work for the skywalk at the junction has begun in earnest already.
