Fire destroys cargo godown

Fire in a godown of a private cargo carrier in Timber Yard Layout, off Mysore Road, on Saturday morning destroyed goods worth lakhs of rupees.

Smoke was noticed in the godown of Manoj Cargo Gift Parcel Centre at about 7 a.m. On being alerted by local residents, Fire Services personnel arrived at the spot and doused the flames after nearly five hours.

Firemen Ramaiah, Anand Singh, Nagaraj and Vasanth Kumar, who sustained burns during the operation, were taken to Victoria Hospital. They were discharged later in the day.

The godown had parcels and gifts such as clothes, electronic items, furniture and stationery, among others. They were all completely destroyed, according to the police.

The police said that there were also inflammable substances such as nail polish and thinner in the godown.

They are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
