The Vidhana Soudha police have filed an FIR against the former Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde and the former Additional Director-General of Police (Lokayukta) R.K Dutta on Thursday for “mentally harassing” an officer who was allegedly trapped by the Lokayukta. The police acted on a complaint filed by Deputy Inspector-General (Internal Security Division) Hemant Nimbalkar on March 16. According to the complaint, the raids, which allegedly caught him with disproportionate assets worth around Rs. 250 crore, had caused him mental duress. Police have filed cases under five sections of the Indian Penal Code ranging from a public servant flouting the law to abetting a crime.

Responding to the FIR, Mr. Dutta, who now holds the post of Director-General Police (DGP) of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said: “I have only performed my role as a police officer. I have nothing to comment on the FIR.”
