Film workers resume work

March 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - BENGALURU:

The production of Kannada films, which had been affected to ‘some extent’ for the last 27 days following abstention by the workers after producers refused to pay revised wages to them, resumed here on Monday.

With the workers absenting themselves for work for 27 days, the issue had resulted in a stalemate with both producers and workers affiliated to the Karnataka Chalanachitra Kalavidara Karmikara Okkoota sticking to their respective stands. However, actors V. Ravichandran and Shivarajkumar played a pivotal role in breaking the ice.

Terms agreed

The workers agreed to return to work after an assurance from the 8-member committee, comprising producers and representatives of the okkoota, that it would study the problem and suggest a pay structure. Addressing the media, Mr. Ravichandran said the committee would submit its report on April 17 and hoped, it would be acceptable to both parties. Workers too have agreed to work at the level of previous wages, till then.

It is significant to note that the two-day strike launched by film workers was withdrawn in last March, following intervention of Mr. Shivarajkumar. Over 4,000 workers belonging to the Okkoota had boycotted production activities then, opposing the decision of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to give recognition to parallel film workers union, headed by Rajesh Brahmavar.
