The Kannada film industry on Sunday extended support to the bandh call given by Kannada organisations on Monday opposing dubbing of other language films and television serials to Kannada.
Except office-bearers of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) and the Karnataka Film Producers’ Association, all the wings of the film industry participated in the meeting organised by Kannada organisations to discuss the proposed bandh.
According to M.S. Ramesh, president, Kannada Film Directors’ Association, the meeting was a show ofstar strength ahead of the bandh.
The actors will participate in the rally from the Mysore Bank Circle to the Dr. Rajkumar podium erected on the Central College grounds on Monday.
SecurityThe Kannada Okkoota has cautioned producers and exhibitors against shooting and exhibiting films during the bandh.
Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar held a high-level meeting on security arrangements.
The Kannada Sahitya Parishat, the Kannada Development Authority and a host of Kannada literary and cultural organisations have also extended support to the bandh.
Pro-dubbing groupThe Kannada Film Producers’ Association, at a recent meeting, decided to oppose the bandh, while expressing support to dubbing citing economic reasons. It also cautioned the Karnataka Film Workers Artists Technicians’ Federation against obstructing shooting. However, the federation decided to go ahead with its boycott of shooting.
KFCC has taken a neutral stand on the bandh, as it was a party to a case being heard before the Competition Commission of India related to dubbing.
Meanwhile, a group of people submitted an online petition to the government supporting dubbing.
The dubbing issue popped up suddenly after a three-month-old expert report submitted to CCI surfaced a few days ago.
The report spoke in favour of allowing dubbing.
