Tuesday morning rain leaves KGA car park area and the 10th hole waterlogged.

Fear of the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) members that the golf course would be flooded once it rains has come true. The 10th hole and the car park of the course were flooded after Tuesday morning rain.

The Hindu had carried a report on the issue on January 19, 2015.

KGA claimed that the work is being carried out to cover the storm water drain (SWD) adjacent to the 10th and the 11th holes. Embassy Group, which is building a villa ‘Embassy Grove’, has been permitted by BBMP to cover the SWD, despite of concerns raised by KGA.

Tuesday morning’s rains clogged the SWD and flooded the course submerging the 10th hole and the fairway. Garbage and plastic waste were seen on the golf course. The generator room and the car park adjacent to this area were also waterlogged, with foot-high water on the course.

“Embassy Group has put three huge pipes in the SWD, reducing the surface area for flow of water leading to clogging of the drain,” rued Hitesh N. Joshi, KGA president. Former KGA president B.S.N. Reddy said their worst fears had come true.

“If the SWD could not withstand such an odd rain, how can it hold monsoon rain? ” he said. BBMP’s Chief Engineer (SWD) H.C. Ananthswamy described the problem as a temporary one as the work of covering the SWD was underway. Embassy Group, in an official statement, also termed the flooding a temporary problem caused due to unexpected rain on Tuesday morning.
