The family of a teenaged garment factory worker, who was found hanging from a tree on Tuesday evening in Doddaballapur near Bangalore, has alleged that she was raped by four men prior to her suicide.
The 19-year-old victim, from Narasimhanahalli near Doddaballapur, was last seen by someone from her village around 5 p.m. while she was on her way to meet a friend. She went missing thereafter.
Her frantic family started looking for her late night and filed a missing complaint with the Doddaballapur police. The police then got information about an apparent suicide in a mango grove and the family confirmed it to be their daughter’s body.
Accosted
As the news spread, the person who saw the girl last went to her parents and told them she was accosted by the gang which was stalking her, passing lewd comments.
The four were identified as Narasimhamurthy, Gangadhar, Pradeep and Praveen from the same village.
The parents then filed a complaint alleging their daughter was murdered when she fought off rape.
However, a PTI report said one of the suspects was the girl’s boyfriend who beat her up in public for talking to another man.
The police line of investigation is rape and abetment to suicide.
“We are yet to get confirmation from the detailed post-mortem report about the gang rape,” the police said.
The Doddaballapur police registered a case of unnatural death and are looking for the four men who are absconding.
