It was a family reunion on Tuesday for PDP leader and Bangalore serial blast accused Abdul Nasir Maudany at Manipal Hospital where he was shifted from the Central prison due to his deteriorating health condition. His wife Sufiya Maudany and son, Omar Mukhthar, were glad to meet him after a gap of three years, although not in the best circumstances.
Following the Supreme Court directions, the Karnataka Prisons Department have allowed the family members to stay with him and issued ID card that they need to carry. Earlier, counsel for Mr. Maudany, P. Usman, had requested the special court to allow the family to stay with Maudany during his treatment.
Doctors treating him at Manipal Hospital said the patient was wheeled into hospital by jail authorities at 11.30 a.m. for evaluation of his health status and will be in the hospital for couple of days.
Considering the profile of the patient, the hospital has tightened security. Five policemen will guard Maudany at the hospital.
The High Court on January 7 had ordered he could be admitted to a private hospital and the expenses should be borne by his family. Following the order, he was admitted to Soukhya Chikitsalaya in Whitefield. Later, he was shifted to Manipal Hospital. His family and some politicians together paid the medical bills totalling Rs. 10 lakh last time.
