Failure to repay a loan taken from a former employee proved too costly for a father whose 10-year-old son was found murdered in Bangalore.
The child was found hanging from an iron grill on the terrace of a building in the busy Majestic area. The victim is B. Harshavardhana Reddy, a Kodihalli resident and Class 4 student of Cambridge School in Jeevan Bima Nagar, who had been reported missing since Wednesday.
Body located
The body was located only after the police detained Srinivas (23), who had worked as a caretaker of the paying guest accommodation run by the boy’s father Bhaskar Reddy in Madiwala.
Sacked
Police said Mr. Reddy owed Srinivas Rs. 75,000 and had ignored persistent reminders to return the loan. Recently, a blazing row between the two ended in Srinivas’s sacking.
An enraged Srinivas decided to teach his former employer a lesson. “He met Harshavardhana while he was going to his tuition class and took him to Majestic on the pretext of shopping. As the boy was close to Srinivas and called him maama , he readily accompanied him,” police said. Srinivas took him to Majestic and tried to board a bus to Madanapalle, his hometown, to demand a ransom but the boy refused and started to cry. Sensing trouble, the conductor shouted at him. He then tried to book a room in a lodge but the suspicious receptionist refused to oblige.
The police said Srinivas then took the child to a building and convinced Harshavardhana to sleep there promising to take him home the next day. When the child complied, he alleged strangled him and hung the body from the grill before leaving for Tirupati from where the police arrested him.
