An incident of a commerce student being beaten up and stabbed with a knife by two young men when he refused to pay them money has come to light.
The crime took place near Austin College in Chamarajpet where the victim, Zabiulla (19), a resident of Mysore Road, joined six months ago.
According to the police, the teen has accused Pramod and Pawan, working in a nearby shop, of confronting him asking for money while he was taking his motorcycle out from the parking lot across the college on Thursday. He said the duo started assaulting him even as he started running. They chased him and stabbed him in the stomach and back. The attack stopped when two beat constables noticed the attackers. The constables collared Pawan while Pramod escaped. However, the police arrested him later. Both have been booked for murder attempt and remanded in judicial custody.
Zabiulla was taken to hospital where he was treated.
Many college students complained that the men harassed students regularly and despite complaints, the police had not taken action against them. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.S. Revanna said of the two, one was a minor and a high school dropout, working as salesman in a shop.
