Expired medicines worth Rs. 52 lakh were found in the godown of the District Sri Narasimha Raja Hospital here.

The shocking fact came to light when Health and Family Welfare Minister and district in-charge K.R. Rameshkumar visited the hospital on Friday.

The Minister took the district surgeon H.R. Shivakumar to task and said that action would be initiated against companies that supplied the expired medicines. He also expressed displeasure over supply of unwanted medicines. He directed authorities to ensure that poor people coming to the hospital for treatment don’t have to buy medicines from outside.

Warning stringent action against those pestering patients and their relatives money, he asked the hospital authorities to submit a list of equipment that the hospital required.

Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra and District Health Officer Rameshkumar were present.
