Rain continued to wreak havoc in several parts of the State on Monday. While Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada received very heavy rainfall, Kota, Karkala, Kundapur, Dharmasthala, Mulki, Bantwal, Belthangady, Uppinangady, Bhatkal, Gokarna, Manki, Kumta, Honnavar, Karwar, Kamalapur, Aland, Agumbe, Bharamasagara and Challakere in Chitradurga and Mangalore received heavy rainfall.
According to the Meteorological Department, monsoon was vigorous over south interior Karnataka and active over coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka.
Two dead
Two persons died in two separate cases of drowning in Udupi. Yesu alias Krishna Poojary (40) slipped and fell into the Swarna river when he went outside his house at Uppoor village to relieve himself at around 9 p.m. on Sunday. In another case, a woman, Yechu Naik (75) of Majur, who went to fetch milk on Sunday, was washed away by strong currents of the floods and drowned. Both bodies were recovered on Monday.
According to the Control Room at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Udupi city received 73.4 mm of rain in 24 hours until 8.30 a.m. on Monday.
Bangalore
In Bangalore, intermittent showers caught citizens unawares as the afternoon spells of rain left people running for cover. Until 5.30 p.m., the city received 22.2 mm of rain. On B.P. Wadia Road in Basavangudi, an autorickshaw driver had a narrow escape as a tree fell on the vehicle during the rain.
There were reports of tree falls, dislodged lamp and electric poles and flooding of streets from various parts of the city.
Forecast
People can expect more spells of rain until August 29 morning.
According to the Meteorological Department, moderate and heavy rain and thundershowers would occur at most places over coastal Karnataka and at many places over north and south interior Karnataka.
The department has issued a warning that heavy rainfall will occur at isolated places over coastal Karnataka and the ghat areas of south interior Karnataka in the next 48 hours.
