Exclusive university road possible: BBMP Commissioner

December 15, 2011 10:01 am | Updated 10:01 am IST - BANGALORE:

Bangalore University (BU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) N. Prabhu Dev's proposal to restrict access to roads passing through the Jnana Bharathi campus found a backer in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner M.K. Shankarlinge Gowda.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Gowda said: “The VC has requested that entry into the roads passing through the university be barred to the public to ensure student safety and to maintain calm on the campus. It is possible. But the roads around (alternative roads) have to be improved first before this road is closed.”

With the construction of the new outer ring road (ORR) between Magadi Road and Mysore Road via Nagarabhavi, an alternative road is viable, he said.

Asked whether he has set a deadline to upgrade the roads inside the campus, Mr. Gowda said potholes would be filled by January 15.
