A 36-year-old former head constable with the City Armed Reserve hanged himself in a cell of Bangalore Central Jail, Parappana Agrahara on Tuesday. He was imprisoned on the charge of killing his wife and two minor children in Sampigehalli in May this year.

According to the police, Subhash Chandra was undergoing treatment for depression.

On Tuesday, he requested his cell mates to get him breakfast. When they left him alone, he hanged himself with a lungi.

“Our inquiries revealed that Subhash was heavily in debt when he killed his wife and two children. He attempted to end his life by consuming pesticide, but neighbours were able to get him help on time,” said a source in the police.

He was arrested on the charge of murder and remanded in judicial custody.
