More than 500 residents of EWS Quarters in Ejipura took out a padayatra to Banappa Park on Monday to draw attention to their plight.

The padayatra was organised by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Youth Social Welfare Association. They later staged a demonstration at the BBMP office and submitted a memorandum to Mayor S.K. Nataraj.

A. Louis, president of the association, said 1,512 quarters were allotted to the beneficiaries in 1992. In 2003, portions of a few buildings collapsed. Later, the buildings were demolished and temporary sheds were put up..

In November 2005, the Government approved a project by private builders. The construction was handed over to Maverick Holding in May 2006. But it was challenged by Akruti Builders. The case is still pending in the High Court.

Mr. Nataraj assured the residents of looking into the issue.
