A 26-year-old Evangelist from Manipur was allegedly assaulted by five unidentified men near his friend's house in Lakshmipura in the early hours of Thursday.

The victim, Evan Mamang Kipgen, who hails from Manipur, works as an Evangelist at Thadou Christian Fellowship Church (TCF) in the city.

Mr. Kipgen who went to conduct prayer at one of his friend’s house in Lakahmipura came out of the house to take his bike when the gang attacked him.

The gang kicked and punched him and escaped soon after Kipgen raised alarm for help, following which his friends rushed out.

“I didn’t know who they were and why they attacked me. They did not even try to rob me,” he said.

“They were Kannada speaking people and were saying something which I didn’t understand. Only after I raised an alarm, they fled,” he added.

Mr. Kipgen then approached the jurisdictional police and registered an assault complaint.

Meanwhile, the Thadou Students' Association, Bengaluru, condemn the attack and demanded action from the police. The association also urged the local police to step up night patrolling since such incidents are on the rise not only involving people from northeast, but locals as well.
